COVID-19 Update

by admin, June 30, 2020

Dear Guests,

HURRAH! It won’t be long now – we are planning to reopen on Friday 10 July.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Marlborough Arms this Summer  – many of you as returning guests.  We understand that you may have some apprehension about your visit so, for the sake of clarity and your peace of mind, we have put together the following document to inform you of the measures we have put in place ready for your stay.

Over recent weeks we have been busy assessing our hotel operations and making certain changes in the interest of keeping us all as safe as possible.

The Hotel Team

  • We will perform temperature checks for all staff at the beginning of their working day.
  • All team members will be washing their hands (or using hand sanitiser) at least every 20 minutes from the moment they arrive at work.
  • The team will follow a policy of no physical contact and maintain social distancing, wherever possible…. please do not think we’re being impolite!
  • You may see some staff wearing enhanced protective equipment where necessary. Much of this will be behind the scenes in areas such as the kitchen and housekeeping. We will do as much as necessary and required whilst trying to avoid too much of a clinical environment.
  • All of our hotel teams have undergone comprehensive hospitality-focused training on how to prevent the contagion of Covid-19. We will continue to evaluate our training as best practices evolve.
  • Any staff member who shows symptoms will be told stay at home and will be required to self-isolate for 14 days prior to returning to work.

Booking and Pre-Arrival

Prior to your arrival we will contact you by email to confirm and double-check all the details of your stay.  We will charge your card in full 5 days before your arrival and any extras will be charged to your card after you depart and the final invoice/receipt emailed after your departure. This avoids you having to use the card terminal.  We will also send a Breakfast menu for you to choose from.  It is very important that we have a full and detailed understanding of your specific requirements particularly with regards to bedroom configurations and allergies at this point.  We can also answer any further queries you may have regarding our safety plans.

Your Arrival

In order to reduce congestion in the hotel lobby we are requesting that only one member of your party complete the check-in process at reception.

Hand Sanitising stations will be situated on the bar and outside the dining room – please make use of them to sanitise your hands before checking in.

Public Areas

Our public areas such as the bar, reception, dining room and the Blenheim Room have been reconfigured where necessary to ensure social distancing (as per the prevailing guidelines) can be maintained at all times.

In the corridors the general rule of thumb is to keep left and give priority to people coming down the stairs.

All screens, door handles and shared surfaces (“touch points”) will be extensively cleaned and sanitised throughout the day.

To avoid unnecessary contact we ask that guests who are staying with us – where possible – use the bathrooms in their bedrooms.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Every guest bedroom and en-suite bathroom will be deep cleaned and fully sanitised before each stay – this may take a little longer than normal so we ask for your patience if your room is not ready by 3.30 pm.

Daily room servicing by our housekeeping team will only be available for stays of more than 3 nights and upon request only. If you should require this service, rooms will need to be vacant and personal items including toiletries stowed away. If you require clean towels or extra toiletries please leave dirty/used outside your door in the morning in the plastic bag provided before 12 noon and they will be replaced and left outside your door.

Fabric items such as mattresses, pillows, headboards, curtains, carpet, chairs and other furniture will be misted with an approved sanitising solution, which helps to combat  Covid-19 but otherwise harmless to you and  us.

All consumables will be replaced before each stay and all printed material has been removed from your room to avoid cross-contamination.

In the event a guest has symptoms during their stay, they will be asked to return home as soon as possible, the room will be sealed for 72 hours and not re-let until it has been deep cleaned and sanitised thoroughly.

Food & Drink

In order to better manage the service at breakfast, we may ask you to pre-order the day before.  It will also be necessary to book a time for breakfast.   We respectfully request that guests endeavour to adhere to these times to ensure flow and guest safety at all times.

Single-use or laminated menus will be offered which can either be destroyed or sanitised after each use.

For those of you that are booked through a Special Offer which includes a Cream Tea, we will ask you to book a specific time when you check in so as to adhere to Social Distancing.

Check out/departure

We ask that you leave your windows open when you leave your bedroom for the last time.

Your accommodation cost will have been charged prior to your arrival and a printed room bill/receipt will emailed to you after your departure which will include any extras incurred during your stay and will have been charged to your card.

Please leave your key on the bar when you leave.  Failure to do so will incur an addition of £25 on your bill which will be refunded when the keys are returned.

We hope the above details will give you some reassurance that our Covid-19 precautions are as thorough as possible and we look forward to seeing you very soon.

Do feel free to call me at any time.

With very best wishes

Sally McEwen
